But nature is also extremely diverse - there is a sea, many rivers, lakes, forests, mountains, plains, etc. The culture and the other aspects of Bulgaria are also captivating for those interested in them. And although it is hard to choose just ten places that are worth visiting, we’ve compiled а list to help you see some of the best that Bulgaria has to offers.
10. The Rila Monastery
Even if you aren’t religious, the Rila Monastery is certainly worth visiting because it is among the most significant and memorable monuments of the Bulgarian culture and one of the symbols of the country.
The monastery is part of the UNESCO’s world heritage and has an aura of greatness, which can make your breath stop.
The Rila Monastery is situated in Rila Mountain, which is in the Southwestern part of Bulgaria. It has а status of the separate village and will show you beautiful architecture and captivating culture you’ll never forget.

Perperikon is an ancient Thracian city now and archaeological complex situated in the Eastern part of the Rodopi Mountain. It contains a medieval fortress, monuments from the Antiquity period and an ancient sanctuary.
It had been a sacred saxatile city of the Thracians and, later, had been populated by Romans, Goths, Byzantines and Bulgarians. It was destroyed in the 14th century by the Turks and is now a historical and archaeological site visited by many tourists.
It is a magnificent and glorious place to visit if you love exploring historical places.
4. Shipka Monument
Shipka is a pass in the mountain of Stara Planina in Bulgaria which is emblematic for the Bulgarian history and a very important part of the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire. In 1934 the Shipka Monument was open officially by Tsar Boris the Third.
The monument is in the shape of a battle tower and its height is 31.5 meters.
To get there you’ll have to climb 894 steps but this is certainly worth it because, once on the top, you can’t help but admire the beauty of the nature and the greatness of the history which have soaked in this place.
3. The Belogradchik Rocks
They are a group of conglomerate and sandstone rock formation with strange shapes. You can find the Belogradchik rocks in western Stara Planina (Balkan Mountains).
You can see stunning rock formations, which are up to 200 meters high. The color of the formations varies from red to yellow. The Belogradchik rocks are a natural phenomenon and find a place as one of the top hundred national tourist sites of Bulgaria.

The Devil’s Throat Cave is a magnificent natural underground mystery that dates back from millenniums. Its greatest mystery is the underground river, which hasn’t been traced until this day. The cave is 1 kilometer long with the tourist route being 350 meters. According to the legend, Orpheus had come down in the Devil’s Throat Cave to search for his beloved Eurydice in the underworld of Hades.

This beautiful cave is also known as the Eyes of God cave due to the two eyes-like holes in the middle chamber which illuminate the interior and provide a unique view.
